The Challenge

Emerging hazards in the food supply chain pose significant risks to public health and safety. Traditional methods of managing these hazards are often inadequate due to the rapid evolution of contaminants and the complexity of food systems. This challenge necessitates innovative and robust solutions that can keep pace with the changing landscape of food safety risks.

FoodSafeR Project

The Horizon Europe project, FoodSafeR, coordinated by FFoQSI, brings together 19 leading European academic, research, and industry organizations. This collaborative initiative is set to revolutionize the way emerging food safety hazards are assessed and managed. By developing state-of-the-art tools and frameworks, FoodSafeR presents a unique opportunity to enhance food safety standards across Europe and beyond, ensuring a healthier and safer food supply chain.

The Solution

FoodSafeR is addressing these challenges by creating a comprehensive suite of future-oriented tools, methods, strategies, models, guidance, and training materials. Leveraging cutting-edge science, these resources will be accessible through the FoodSafeR Open Digital Hub, an all-in-one platform that fosters a community of professionals from the European and international food safety systems. This hub will provide the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively combat emerging food safety hazards and ensure a safer food supply for all.

PURPOSE

FoodSafeR aims to transform food safety in Europe and internationally by hosting a community of professionals who can work together in proactively identifying and managing emerging risks, ensuring a safer and healthier food supply for everyone.

MISSION

Provide a secure digital platform that centralises access to trustworthy information, available data, and innovative tools, methods, and training resources to empower a specialised community of food safety professionals to effectively address emerging risks.

VISION

To become a global reference in managing emerging food safety risks, promoting a culture of food safety based on innovation, collaboration, and scientific knowledge.

FOODSAFER APPROACH

FoodSafer_Approach

A new generation of future-oriented tools for the assessment of emerging
food safety hazards for the proactive management of the associated risks:

The European Commission funded FoodSafeR project was launched in October 2022 and over the next 4 years is focussing on the advancement of innovations to combat emerging microbial and chemical food safety hazards and associated risks of contaminants based on cutting edge science.

For Food Safety emerging hazard Identification, Assessment and Management, all of which will be widely accessible via the FoodSafeR Open Digital Hub as a key delivery platform for the project outputs.

The project is developing a one stop shop suite of future-oriented resources:
