This week marked a major milestone for the FoodSafeR project as we proudly took part in the “Advances in Contamination Control and Food Quality” symposium, held on November 27–28, 2024, at BOKU University, IFA-Tulln, near Vienna, Austria.
Co-organized by FoodSafeR, PHOTONFOOD, and DigiFoods, the symposium brought together top researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers to exchange knowledge and discuss the future of food safety and quality in Europe and beyond.
FoodSafeR in the Spotlight
Cristina Fernández, from IRIS Technology Solutions, delivered an insightful presentation on how digital innovation is helping address today’s food safety challenges. Her talk emphasized how data-driven systems, AI tools, and digital monitoring frameworks are transforming the way we detect, assess, and mitigate risks across the food chain.
🔬 Additionally, Prof. Martin Wagner and Prof. Rudolf Krska contributed to the scientific program with high-level interventions focused on emerging microbiological and chemical hazards. Their presentations highlighted current trends and outlined strategic responses to safeguard public health and food supply resilience.
A Platform for Collaboration and Innovation
The event created an excellent space for interdisciplinary dialogue, promoting collaboration among EU-funded projects and institutions dedicated to advancing food safety. Topics covered included:
-
Early detection of contaminants using photonic and sensor-based technologies
-
The integration of digital platforms to improve risk prediction and traceability
-
Co-creation approaches for designing relevant and scalable safety solutions
As a flagship Horizon Europe initiative, FoodSafeR is proud to contribute to this community and to lead the conversation on how we can better prepare for, and respond to, evolving food risks.
Looking Ahead
We return from this symposium energized and even more committed to our mission: developing innovative, science-based tools that help strengthen food safety systems across Europe and around the world.
Thank you to all our partners, collaborators, and fellow participants for making this event a success!
