Following our initial announcement, we’re excited to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable success and impact of the “Advances in Contamination Control and Food Quality” symposium, held on November 27–28, 2024, in Tulln (Vienna), Austria.
Co-organized by FoodSafeR, PHOTONFOOD, and DigiFoods, the event brought together an international community of experts and innovators dedicated to advancing food safety and quality through scientific excellence, digital solutions, and cross-sector collaboration.
A Strong Presence from the FoodSafeR Consortium
The symposium highlighted the breadth and depth of expertise within the FoodSafeR consortium, with several of our partners delivering high-impact contributions. Cristina Fernández Avila from IRIS Technology Solutions presented on the role of digital innovation in addressing current food safety challenges, offering insights into how smart technologies are reshaping risk management in the sector.
Martin Wagner and Rudolf Krska from FFoQSI addressed emerging microbiological and chemical hazards, exploring new trends and forward-looking strategies that will shape the future of food risk assessment. Their interventions sparked engaging discussions among participants and underscored the importance of proactive, science-based responses.
We were also proud to have Paul Williams from Queen’s University Belfast, Cintia Mayr from AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, and Ids Lemmink from Wageningen University & Research sharing their expertise. Their contributions further enriched the scientific dialogue, covering innovative methodologies and systemic approaches to food contamination control and quality assurance.
Building Knowledge and Collaboration
This level of participation reflects the collaborative strength and scientific excellence of our consortium. It also reinforces FoodSafeR’s commitment to fostering dialogue and delivering tools and strategies that make a real impact across the food system.
We extend our sincere thanks to the organizers of the symposium for creating such a valuable space to connect, share, and move the field of food safety forward together.
Looking Ahead
We are proud to be part of this vibrant and growing community and look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of food safety innovation—together with our partners and peers across Europe and beyond.
